What's important about Integrative Medicine? It's this - a skilled Integrative Medicine doctor ADDS to good medicine by not only treating the disease or illness, but also strengthening the vitality and healing potential of the person, so you get the best possible results.
A good surgeon can remove a tumor, but cannot heal a wound, and an antibiotic can help treat an infection, but if your immune system isn't strong enough, you won't recover. Your body has built-in healing abilities developed over billions of years of evolutionary trial and error. A good Integrative Medicine approach can help boost your immunity and healing abilities, and help you heal from or live better with a wide variety of medical conditions, without always needing to use drugs.
If you have symptoms or illnesses that have not been well-treated with conventional medicine, are on too many medications, or are taking medications to treat side effects of other medications, you owe it to yourself to have a good Integrative Medicine doctor on your side.
You will be amazed at what your body can do when it is properly supported.
If you have a chronic or complex illness, my approach starts by making sure you have had the best medical care possible then adds an assessment of how well your innate healing systems are supported. We optimize that healing support through the intelligent use of nutrition, acupuncture, herbs, mind/body medicine, and therapeutic movement and body work.
Sometimes the healing plan is simple and sometimes it's complex, all according to your individual needs, abilities, and preferences. We work together with an aim to get you both relief of symptoms and correction of any imbalances that contribute to continuing illness.
I have been a Medical Doctor since 1970, and an acupuncturist since 1972. I have worked with, learned from, and taught many of the major thought leaders in the holistic and now integrative medicine field, and work to bring the top level of expertise to every patient I see. I have a lot of hard-won experience in what works and what doesn't, and can help you make sure that you are getting the safest and most effective care available. As a long-time member of the Bay Area medical community, and a Clinical Faculty member at UCSF, I can also connect you with the best referrals if we need specific expertise that you haven't already accessed.
I welcome patients with difficult, unusual, and complex situations, as well as patients with common problems like back and neck pain, headaches, irritable bowel syndrome, and autoimmune disease. I am also happy to talk with you on the phone before you come in to make sure that my practice is right for you.
